Jesus tells the disciples to stay with him and pray during his hour of need, yet we read that they could not keep their eyes open. What distracts you from living as a faithful disciple?
Read Matthew 26:37. As Jesus was being overwhelmed with sorrow He took Peter, James, and John farther away to keep watch and pray. In what ways can the company of fellow believers help you through a trial? Give an example of when this happened for you.
Read Matthew 26:39. This verse demonstrates the struggle between Jesus’ divine nature and the desires of the flesh. He knew the horrific torture and death that awaited Him. Describe a time when you decided not to follow your own desires, but submit to God’s will.
Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” We may deal with the betrayal of those we love our entire lives. How does Jesus’ betrayal, death, and resurrection give you hope in the midst of disappointments?
